Churreria La Lola, Powerplant Mall

I haven’t really liked churros all that much. Especially the ones that they sell during Spanish fairs here in the Philippines and bazaars mostly because Churros are very very oily and most times one bite could give you a mouthful of oil mixed with chocolate. Gross. However I came across this place while walking in Powerplant mall and wanted to give it a try.

Here’s their menu. You may click on it to enlarge it.

Medium 6 pieces with hot chocolate, Php 110 for the medum sized churros and you add Php 60 for the hot chocolate. Pricey but really worth it.

Best best best Churros I’ve had. You could hear the crunch while eating it and although there were drippings of oil at the bottom of the carton the Churro itself did not have that oil coming out as you bit into it. I would absolutely come back to try the Xuxos. Which are stuffed churros with a choice of Nutella, Dulce de Leche, Strawberry Jam or Peanut Butter. I thought that it was a bit pricey at first but after biting into that first crunchy sounding Churro, I found myself wanting more.

Refinery, Rockwell

Located at Joya Lofts and Towers, Rockwell, Makati this place is open from 7am to 11pm. With a very relaxed and inviting ambiance this is one place you would love to bring your friends to for an early breakfast or a late night cap with a good friend.

Bliss Tiramisu Coffee Beverage Php 250

Creme Brulee Espresso Php 175

Honey Latte, Php 140

I would really love to come back here for breakfast after looking at their menu and the ambiance of the place is just so inviting. The location is also good since it is at the corner of the building and although there is not much of a view, the place looks very welcoming. The Honey Latte, was really good and you could really taste the organic honey that they mentioned that they used on the menu. Definitely one to check out!

Woodfire Bistro, Rockwell Makati

I have no bad comments for the place except for the fact that the tables were too close to each other that there was barely enough space to pass between tables. We had to adjust our chairs each time somebody would pass between us. As for the food, It wasn’t anything exceptional however there were some standout dishes that I would love to try again.

Rucola Salad Php 375 *

Reale Salad, Php 345

Tutto Carne, Php 495

Quattro Formaggi, Php 495

Spinach Ravioli, Php 295

Pomodoro, Php 245

The Rucola Salad was a really good, as I have also read on other blogs. I loved the combination of the caramelized walnuts, roasted beets and the goat cheese in the salad. Then the Quattro Formaggi Pizza was also one that we all liked. As for their pasta, I did not find the Pomodoro so attractive. In fact we thought that it looked kind of funny.  However the Spinach Ravioli was quite good if you are a lover of vegetables such as myself.

The place is not so hard to find in fact you could just park your car up in Rockwell and just walk here. I would recommend trying the place out as it is not so bad. However coming back for a second time? I think that there are plenty of new restaurants around Manila which are similar to this restaurant, but its worth a try. Their Cake was good, I think that was my favorite. (I’m a sucker for dessert)

Budget per person: Php 500-600 pesos

Recommended: Rucola Salad, Quattro Formaggi Bianco Pizza

Apartment 1B, One Rockwell Makati

Definitely a place that I would like to come back to. Despite the fact that their dishes here are pricey, the price is worth the taste of their food. I hear that their breakfast menu is one that you should try. They only serve breakfast from 7am-3pm so come during that time if you’d like to try their breakfast menu.

Three Cheese Vegetable Lasagna (ricota, parmesan, mozarella) Php 490

Poached Salmon (Norwegian Salmon, tomato-hollandaise sauce, asparagus, parsley potatoes) Php 980

Baked Samosas (mushrooms, spinach and cream cheese) Php 350

The baked Samosas were my favorite among the three dishes that we ordered. Their pasta was really heavy, good enough for three people at least since we ordered the Salmon which was also a heavy dish. I would suggest that you come here with your family and or friends. The dishes here are very healthy and good and their breakfast menu is one that I would like to try soon. Don’t forget though to allot a big budget if you are planning to come here with your friends.

Grace Park, One Rockwell Makati

SONY DSCA friend of mine wanted to try out this place last week, and so I did some research before coming here. I found out from my research that it was a restaurant put up by Margarita Fores.  The same person who manages Cibo. (another one of my favorite restaurants) The restaurant has been said to have been inspired by the home of her grandparents.

We went straight here after dance class. Hopefully we had burned enough calories for the amount of food that we were about to eat tonight. The place had a very rustic and homey interior which I loved very much, and upon the recommendation of the waiter we chose to try their two best selling dishes. We also decided to try two of their dishes from the “menu of the day”. Most of our orders were based on whatever everyone else was ordering around us.

Fried Squash Flowers Mascarfone Wrapped Prosciutto

Muscovado Beef Belly

Fettuccine Truffle Cream Organic Egg

We did not know what squash flowers were but they definitely tasted good. The Muscovado beef belly had that perfect sweetness and softness that matched to it. The Fettuccine Truffle Cream Organic Egg was my favorite among the two main dishes. I could smell how great it tasted even before we ate it. Everything we ate tonight here had a certain “Grace” to its flavor and presentation. I would not have spent the night eating anything else. These dishes were all very simple and rich in flavor but at the same time elegant. Just as the ambiance of the restaurant that complimented well to the taste of its food. I would definitely love to try more of their dishes the next time I come here. The last thing we tried here was the Eton Mess. I normally do not like to eat meringue and I really do not like whipped cream either, but I read about this in one of the blogs that it was one of the best desserts to try. IT MOST DEFINITELY WAS.

SONY DSCBUDGET PER PERSON: We spent  about 1800 pesos in total of what we shared. I would recommend at least (500-1000 pesos) budget per person when coming here.
